a. Describe the issue that you wish to adopt. The issue I wish to adopt is the differences between Asian-American students and White students. I hope my issue can be to some degree related with my own life, and I read many articles online and suddenly found that this is what I want. Although I'm not Asian-American, I did find many differences between other students and myself. I think if I know the reason behind it, maybe I can adapt to American life better.
b. Explain why this issue is important for the nation, Rhode Island, and to you personally. Personally speaking, I am a Chinese and also Asian students so I am eager to know how other Asian students, although different nationality, live and study here. Before I came to America, I thought that Asian-Americans would definitely act in the same way with White-Americans, but after I talked with some Asian-American and searched for some information about this issue, I found the reality is not what I thought. As for Rhode Island, many Asian-Americans live here and study here. How do they perform in the class? How are they engaged in American culture? I would like to find the differences and the reasons behind. As for the nation, the number of Asian-Americans grows fast these years. To study on them and to know them better are good for the communication between them and other people in America, which can contribute to the integration of Americans.
c. Decide on at least five questions that you feel should be included in your synthesis.
Who are Asian-American? (a basic introduction to this group)
What are the differences between Asian-American students and White students on study? How about in daily life?
Is there any example to further explain the differences? Are Asian-American who come from different countries different to each other? (I will not discuss this in detailed but it cannot be ignored when talking about my issue. )
What are the reasons behind these differences?
